The academic year 2022–2023 marked the beginning of my journey in medicine as a first-year MBBS student at Aziz Fatima Medical and Dental College. This foundational year was a transformative phase in my academic and personal development. It introduced me to the core subjects of medicine and helped shape my understanding of the human body and its intricate functions.
Throughout the year, I immersed myself in the three major basic sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. Each subject opened a new window into the complexity and beauty of the human body.
- Anatomy: I gained a strong understanding of the structural organization of the human body. Through cadaver dissections, models, and diagrams, I learned about different systems, bones, muscles, and organs, building the foundation for clinical knowledge in the years to come.
- Physiology: Helped me understand how the body functions normally. I studied various systems such as cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and endocrine systems. This subject was key to developing a functional perspective of the human body, helping me see the connection between structure and function.
- Biochemistry: I explored the molecular basis of life. From metabolism and enzymes to biomolecules and genetic material, I appreciated how chemical processes sustain life and maintain health.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, I also developed laboratory skills and practical techniques. Through hands-on lab sessions, I became familiar with essential tools, learned how to perform basic experiments, analyze results, and follow proper lab protocols—skills crucial for any future physician.
This year was not only about academic growth but also about discipline, time management, and adapting to the life of a medical student. It laid the groundwork for my future studies and helped me develop a deeper sense of commitment to the medical profession.
